OUR STORY
The J’Miles Youth Engagement Center was born out of both pain and purpose, rooted in the story of Jordan Miles, an honors student from Pittsburgh whose 2010 wrongful arrest and beating by undercover police officers exposed deep injustices within our city. His case, which gained national attention, underscored the urgent need for safe spaces where young people could be nurtured, supported, and shielded from the pipeline of criminalization. Years later, Rise Up 365 carried this vision forward, transforming community outrage into long-term investment by opening the J’Miles Youth Engagement Center in 2024. As part of the organization’s history of building pathways to opportunity, the Center stands as both a memorial to the harm Miles endured and a living commitment to ensure that Pittsburgh’s youth—especially Black youth—have access to mentorship, education, resources, and healing.
